Malaysian influencer Anes Ayunie Osman has come under fire online after a video showing her bringing a suitcase full of cash to buy 15 kilograms of gold jewelry went viral.
The video, posted on TikTok late last month and now with over 2.7 million views, shows Ayunie arriving at a gold shop with her husband and a large black suitcase, according to 8days.
In the footage, she tells staff she intends to buy 15 kilograms of gold to secure the purchase before prices rise. She then opens the suitcase, revealing stacks of plastic-wrapped cash.
That day, the store only had 6 kilograms of necklaces and bracelets available, which she purchased for around RM2.5 million (US$563,000). She reportedly planned to return the next day for the remaining 9 kilograms.
While some viewers praised her for making a “smart investment,” others accused her of flaunting her wealth and questioned why she paid in cash instead of using a bank transfer or card.
Safety concerns were also raised, with many warning that carrying such large amounts of money could attract danger.
“The tax bureau would absolutely love to see this kind of content,” one user wrote. Another added: “Money cannot buy class.”
