Let me tell you, Som Tam (also known as Som Tum) is a famous Thai salad which is known for its spicy, sharp and slightly sweet taste. It is one of the most iconic recipes in Thailand, especially popular in the Northeast region called Isan, and is enjoyed throughout Southeast Asia.

Som Tam literally means “sour ground.” Its name is derived from the traditional method of preparing salads in Okhal and Musal (which is called “Som” for “Sour” and “Tam” for “Pisa Hua).

Ingredients

  • 1 raw papaya
  • 1 cup finely chopped tomatoes
  • 1 cup finely chopped capsicum
  • ½ cup roasted peanuts
  • 5 finely chopped French beans
  • 1 finely chopped green chili
  • 2 teaspoons (soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoon oil
  • 3 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 4 cups fresh (basil leaves

How to Make as Tam Salad (विधी):

  1. First of all, remove the peel of papaya and grate it.
  2. Add chili, soy sauce, oil, lemon juice and brown sugar to a mixer and blend it lightly.
  3. Put all the chopped vegetables and beans in a large bowl.
  4. Add dressing on top and mix well.
  5. Finally add basil and roasted peanuts. Adjust salt and spices according to taste.
  6. Serve after cooling.
