New Delhi: Yuzvendra Chahal the leading wicket-taker in the history of the IPL recently appeared on the Jio Hotstar Press Room show for Punjab Kings. In a candid interaction with the media Chahal touched on everything from handling pressure and bowling tactics to the camaraderie within Punjab Kings and his views on the current IPL season. When asked about the challenges of bowling in different stadiums across India Chahal explained that his experience helps him tailor his approach depending on conditions. We’ve played so many matches across India—we understand the grounds and conditions well. Whether it’s Chepauk or Chinnaswamy we plan according to the match situation and team needs said Chahal. He emphasized that communication with the captain and adapting to game flow are key. His mindset remains aggressive focused on attacking rather than just containing. Rivalries and Extra Motivation Chahal admitted that while every game is important certain matchups especially those involving strong rivalries or familiar opponents can bring out a little extra in him. “Even if my friend is batting on the ground he’s just a batsman for me. Friendship takes a backseat” he said highlighting his ultra-competitive nature. A Confident Start with Punjab Kings Though the season’s start has been a mix of performances Chahal remains unfazed. “We’ve won two out of three games and that’s what matters. I’m enjoying my bowling. My focus is on what the team needs not on individual performance” he stated. He also brushed aside the pressure of his price tag. “When you’re on the ground you’re not thinking about whether you cost ₹5 crore or ₹18 crore. You just play” he said with clarity. Playoffs in Sight: Belief in Team Balance Chahal is confident about Punjab Kings potential this season. “We are aiming for top 2. Our squad is balanced with strong batting and bowling options. The team has a champion vibe” he said. He praised the team atmosphere under coach Ricky Ponting and captain Shreyas Iyer describing it as like a family where even the juniors are treated equally. On MS Dhoni and the Gen Gold Battle When asked about bowling to MS Dhoni Chahal smiled “He’s seen me bowl from behind the stumps. He knows what I think and I know what he might do. If he comes early we attack. Later it’s about containing him because we know what Mahi Bhai can do.” Mentoring Young Spinners and the ‘Kulcha’ Bond Chahal is also seen as a mentor to young spinners in the Punjab squad like Digvesh Rathi and Suryansh. “I tell them to keep believing in themselves. Don’t look at names just bowl with intent” he advised. On the much-loved ‘Kulcha’ duo with Kuldeep Yadav he shared “Those memories will always remain. I’m very happy to see how well he’s doing.” Discipline with a Dash of Fun: Ricky Pontings Influence Interestingly Chahal revealed a lighter side to the otherwise intense Ricky Ponting. “He’s very disciplined but also very funny and jolly. He creates a great environment” he shared giving fans a peek into the dressing room dynamics. Final Thoughts: Joy Belief and One Game at a Time For Chahal cricket is all about enjoying the moment. “I don’t think about what’s not in my control. I enjoy today. We’ll see what happens tomorrow” he concluded reflecting a mature focused and optimistic mindset that fans have come to admire. With such spirit skill and leadership Chahal continues to be not just a match-winner but a cornerstone of Punjab Kings 2025 IPL campaign.
