Mumbai (Maharashtra): Mahela Jayawardene, head coach of the Mumbai Indians (MI), gave an update on Rohit Sharma’s availability for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 matchup against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Before missing the team’s previous match against the Lucknow Sper Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Rohit Sharma played the first three games for the five-time champions in the IPL 2025, scoring 13 against the Chennai Super Kings, 8 against the Gujarat Titans, and 0 against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

“Ro [Rohit], who will also bat today, looks fine. While batting, Rohit had an unpleasant accident to his leg, which caused him discomfort. Yesterday, we were on the road. According to ESPNcricinfo, Mahela Jayawardene said at the pre-game news conference, “He’ll have a hit today, and then we will do an assessment on that.”

“He’s hitting good in the nets and has a few hits. It’s a little unfair to require me to check someone’s performance every two innings. The knock that won him the Champions Trophy is what I remember from his last innings. Therefore, we must reciprocate the experienced men’s attendance at the celebration. As Mumbai, we have always relied on the core group to deliver, and we will continue to do so. When questioned about Rohit’s form, Jayawardene said, “It was unfortunate that he got hit in the nets, and hopefully he’ll be 100% and that’s how we will continue to back the guys to get the results for us.”

With just one victory (two points) from their four games played so far in the season, the Mumbai-based team is now ranked eighth in the IPL 2025 points table. On Monday, they will meet Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their sixth match of the tournament at Mumbai’s storied Wankhede Stadium.
