New Delhi, India Indian hockey players formally joined the worldwide #WhiteCard Campaign on April 6, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, which is celebrated every year to show support for the peace-through-sport movement.
Like other sports cards, the White Card has strong symbolic meaning. The White Card, however, is a symbol of inclusiveness, optimism, and peace as opposed to punishing cards. The advertisement this year highlights a critical worldwide topic. 460 million children live in areas impacted by war, where they lack access to high-quality education and safe areas like playgrounds. Sport transforms from a game into a lifeline in these trying circumstances, fostering abilities like perseverance, teamwork, and respect for one another.
Peace and Sport urge governments, civil society, and sports organizations throughout the globe to acknowledge sport as a vital instrument for education and peace on this International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. The Indian hockey team passionately supports this idea, demonstrating that champions are created not only on the field but also in their advocacy for the common good.
Members of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team came out to express their words of purpose and optimism as representatives of sport and togetherness.
“Sport has the power to break barriers and unite people, regardless of background or language,” said Lalremsiami, an accomplished forward for the Indian Women’s Hockey Team. The #WhiteCard campaign embodies the principles of peace, cooperation, and respect that we uphold both on and off the field. Raising my White Card and advocating for a more secure and inclusive environment for kids worldwide makes me proud.
Goalie Savita of the Indian squad remarked, “I have personally seen the life-changing power of sport. It provided me self-assurance and a sense of direction, and it can help kids in conflict areas too. We want to spread the word that every kid deserves a secure environment in which to play, study, and develop in harmony by participating in the #WhiteCard campaign.
Deepika, a dragflicker and the team’s emerging star, said, “I learned discipline, bravery, and respect on the hockey field. Sport is about creating communities and character, not simply about taking home trophies. Our dedication to peace and a better future for the next generation is embodied in our #WhiteCard initiative.
