In order to facilitate traffic on important roads including Hazratganj, Nishatganj, Mahanagar, and Samtamulk, a significant traffic interchange is planned to be built next to the Gomti Bridge as part of Lucknow’s ambitious Green Corridor project. As part of the Rs 7710 crore project, the planned rotary would run between Shiksha Bhawan and the Gomti Bridge, providing a crucial link for commuters traveling to and from Hanuman Setu, Hazratganj, and surrounding districts.

There is now a route split at Samtamulk crossroads for commuters using the Gomti Bridge from the 1090 intersection to Polytechnic or the LDA headquarters. Similarly, after crossing the bridge, drivers traveling from Hazratganj via Sikandar Bagh to Mahanagar or Nishatganj face increasing traffic issues.

As part of the second phase of the Green Corridor, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is organizing a rotary at this crucial point to solve these problems. This ground-level crossroads, which is a circular rather than a traditional flyover, is intended to control traffic flow from various directions without creating congestion.

Furthermore, the present 10-meter-wide section from Hanuman Setu to the Gomti Bridge via Nishatganj will be enlarged to 18 meters, significantly increasing its ability to manage more traffic. The Green Corridor project’s first phase is finished, and work on multiple bridges is already starting for the second phase, which would cost Rs 500 crore.

Green Corridor Development:

-Phase 1 (Finished): Pakka Pul to IIM Road

-Pakka Pul to Pipraghat (Phase 2: Ongoing) (Anticipated completion by November–December 2025)

-Phase 3: Pipraghat to Shaheed Path (approved)

-Phase 4 (Predicted): Kisan Path to Shaheed Path

A number of flyovers under Phase 2 are now under construction, including a crucial one close to Sankalp Vatika that links Bhaisa Kund Road and Laxman Mela Ground. Road construction for the planned Green Corridor route is still ongoing on the other end of the bridge.

“The Green Corridor’s first phase is finished,” said AK Singh Sengar, In-Charge of the Project Implementation Unit. Rapid work is being made on the second phase, which should be completed by the end of 2025. Smooth traffic flow at the crossroads will be ensured by a circle at Sankalp Vatika and an 18-meter enlargement of the Hanuman Setu road.

This all-encompassing strategy seeks to facilitate easier urban transportation while strengthening connection and traffic management among Lucknow’s main regions.
