The Chase fans were left feeling frustrated after a contestant made a "pathetic" admission on Monday (April 7).
Today's edition of the popular ITV quiz show saw contestants Caroline, Matthew, Lizzy and Graham challenge The Beast, aka Mark Labbett, in the hopes of securing a hefty cash prize.
First up was Caroline, a 57-year-old gardener from Nottingham, who hoped to win some money to put towards a larger speedboat.
"I have a small speedboat which is an oxymoron because it has a very small engine. I'd like a bigger engine so I can go faster," she told host Bradley Walsh.
Caroline managed to accumulate £6,000 in her cash builder round but initially planned to opt for the lower offer. However, she reconsidered after Mark offered a meagre £600, reports .
"I was gonna go low but that's too low, so I'll stick with my £6,000," Caroline decided, prompting Mark to ask: "Did the rest of the team hear that?"
When questioned by Bradley about her initial intention to go low, Caroline candidly responded: "To get back to play in the final chase."
"Are you here to beat the chaser or are you here for an outboard motor?" Bradley then probed further, to which Caroline firmly replied: "I'd like to beat the chaser."
Despite a promising start, Caroline faltered on several questions, leading to her early exit from the game.
"Well, as far as the other three are concerned, no great loss. She wanted to go low, it wasn't very good, next," Mark concluded.
Mark's low offer sparked a stir on X (formerly Twitter), with fans immediately voicing their reactions after Caroline's departure.
Noticing the trend of players opting for lower offers, one fan tweeted: "Would have gone low... but that's too low... well done @MarkLabbett making offers right!" while another remarked: "I'm glad even Brad questioned that."
A third fan said: "Mark spot on to be fair," with another similarly sharing: "Oh she must be absolutely gutted."
Meanwhile, there was evident annoyance directed at Caroline's leanings towards a lower offer.
A frustrated viewer expressed this sentiment, saying: "The first player at it already, tempted to go low," with another adding: "OMG the first player wanted to go low. Pathetic."
The Chase airs weekdays on ITV1 at 5pm
