Six people have been detained by Uttar Pradesh Police in relation to the suspected gang rape of a 19-year-old Varanasi woman.
According to reports, the event happened more than seven days after the woman vanished from her house on March 29.
The victim’s father claims that after the allegation, a formal case was filed at the Lalpur Pandeypur police station. The same evening, the six defendants—all from the Hukulganj and Lallapura regions—were arrested. On March 29, the victim left her house with a male acquaintance, as she had done before with no problems. On April 4, her family filed a missing person report when she failed to come home.
The defendants reportedly abandoned the victim, who was eventually discovered near the Pandeypur crossroads.
After she recovered, the victim told her father about the experience, and he filed a report, which resulted in the filing of a gang rape case.
According to reports, the attack happened at a guest home, a hotel, a lodge and a hookah bar.
According to Varuna Zone DCP Chandra Kant Meena, a complaint has been filed and the six suspects are now being held.
DCP Meena said, “The case is under investigation.”
He said that the event happened between March 29 and April 4 and that a rape report was received at the Lalpur Pandeypur police station on April 6. On March 29, the victim’s relatives first reported her missing. On April 4, the cops retrieved her. The victim had not reported sexual assault, nor had her relatives. Only on April 6th was the rape report filed, he said.
