On Monday, April 7, Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and captain Rishabh Pant were seen at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium in Kolkata, cheering on the Mohun Bagan Super Giants as they play Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) semi-final.
LSG head coach Justin Langer, assistant coach Vijay Dahiya, and a number of other cricket team members joined Sanjiv Goenka, the chairman of the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, which owns both LSG and Mohun Bagan SG. To the surprise of their owner and supporters, the group showed out in abundance to support the Mariners, who pulled off an incredible comeback to overcome a 2-1 first-leg deficit and guarantee a spot in the ISL final.
Known for his fervent devotion to his cricket and football clubs, Goenka was clearly overjoyed as Mohun Bagan completed the victory. The close ties between the Super Giants’ cricket and football teams were evident in the scenes in the stands.
Following a 3-2 aggregate victory against Jamshedpur FC in the two-leg semi-finals, Mohun Bagan Super Giants advanced to the Indian Super League final for the third time in a row.
The summit matchup between MBSG and Bengaluru FC is currently scheduled for this Saturday.
Now, when they play the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the afternoon at Eden Gardens on Tuesday, Rishabh Pant and his LSG team will try to make it a Super Giants double celebration. After defeating the Mumbai Indians by a heart-boosting 12-run margin, LSG’s IPL 2025 campaign has started erratically, with two victories and two defeats so far.
After defeating SunRisers Hyderabad by an overwhelming 80 runs in their most recent game, KKR is feeling quite confident and will be keen to defend their home field at Eden Gardens.
