Young opening batter Priyansh Arya delivered on his high promise with a sensational hundred before the bowlers survived MS Dhoni’s late onslaught to script an 18-run win for Punjab Kings (PBKS) over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday.
Priyansh’s knock of 103 powered PBKS to a humongous total of 219/6, the highest total at the venue, after the hosts lost half their side inside the first 8 overs.
CSK batters have not been good enough thus far in the season, but the likes of Devon Conway (69), Rachin Ravindra (36), Shivam Dube (42) and Dhoni (27) were able to take the game deep on this occasion. However, CSK fell short and ended their 20 overs at 201/5, falling short of the target by 18 runs.
This was CSK’s fourth loss in five games while PBKS recorded their third win in four matches. The former currently sit on 9th place on the table with just 2 points from 5 games while the latter sit on the 4th spot with six points from four games.
CSK desperately need to get back to winning ways otherwise they would soon become one of the first teams to get knocked out of the playoff race. Their next match of the season will be against the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 11.
On the other hand, PBKS are currently in top form and are already looking like they are going to be massive contenders to win the title this season. Their next match of the season will be against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 12.
