Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant said on Tuesday that after the Kolkata Knight Riders batsmen performed brilliantly in the powerplay, he told the bowlers to stick to their plan and not experiment too much. Chasing the challenging target of 239 runs set by the Super Giants, the Knight Riders scored 129 runs for two wickets in 10 overs, but after that their batting order collapsed, causing the host team to lose by four runs.
Pant said after the match, "After the first powerplay, we talked to the bowlers about sticking to the plan and not trying to do too much. I think we didn't realize it when we batted but after the powerplay, we knew that the match would be very close. It was a cautious decision because when the game is going at that pace, you have to slow it down. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I am happy that it worked today.''
After scoring 472 runs in 40 overs in the match, Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane said that it was a tough day for the bowlers and even domestic spinners Sunil Narayan and Varun Chakraborty had to struggle.
Rahane said, "When you are chasing more than 230 runs, you lose wickets while chasing. It was one of the best wickets to bat on. It took some time for the batsmen to settle down. With the bowling attack we have, we control the middle overs well. Sunil was struggling with the ball. Sunil and Varun usually dominate the middle overs but today it was difficult for the bowlers.''
