In recent years, young people have not only gravitated towards sports but are increasingly pursuing careers within them. Rather than solely focusing on established sports like cricket and football, many young individuals are excelling in lesser-known disciplines. They are surpassing expectations, establishing records, and injecting fresh talent into the world of sports.

This shift is both exciting and significant, as they are not only achieving personal success but also contributing to the growth and popularisation of these sports within the country.

Following this trend, 8-year-old Tanishka Patil, a resident of Maharashtra, recently achieved a remarkable feat by swimming continuously for 12 kilometres, an exceptional accomplishment at such a young age.

Full Attention To Safety

Speaking to Local 18, Tanishka’s family shared that she has always been passionate about swimming and has been practising for the past two years. Her recent accomplishment involved swimming the distance from Atal Setu to the Gateway of India in Colaba, which she completed in 3 hours and 11 minutes.

Tanishka embarked on her swim in the early morning hours at 4 am, braving the cold water and reaching the Gateway of India by sunrise. She had diligently prepared for this challenge over the preceding two months.

Dream Of An International Medal

In an interview with Local 18, Tanishka expressed her aspiration to win a medal for India in swimming at the international level. She has already secured silver medals in national and state-level competitions.

Notably, her elder sister, Dolly, also achieved a similar feat by swimming from Alibag to the Gateway of India, covering a distance of 36 kilometres. Swimming, it appears, has become a family tradition.
