The upcoming film Abir Gulaal is making headlines, not for its story or performances, but because of the strong opposition it’s receiving from some political groups in India. The casting of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in a lead role in one of the major issue the movie release is facing.

In the film, Fawad Khan plays the role of a poet and freedom fighter during pre-independence India. His character, Abir, is a powerful symbol of love, resistance, and unity in the face of political and social divisions.

While many fans are excited to see Fawad return to Indian cinema, some major political parties are not happy. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Shiv Sena have objected to his presence, saying that no Pakistani artist should be allowed to work in India while political tensions between the two countries continue.

These groups have announced plans to block the movie’s release in Maharashtra and have warned of protests. They believe that casting a Pakistani actor in a film about Indian freedom and unity is “disrespectful.”

The Indian Film and TV Directors’ Association has also raised concerns, saying the timing of the film and Fawad’s casting could upset people and lead to civil unrest.

Nevertheless, the filmmakers have not released a public statement, and it’s unclear whether Abir Gulaal will release as planned or face delays.
