Citing police reports, The Star reported that Hirosue, 45, kicked and scratched the 37-year-old nurse who was attending to her at around 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday. The nurse, who had been following Hirosue around the hospital while the actress waited for treatment, sustained minor injuries from the attack.
According to NHKHirosue had been transported to the hospital after being involved in a car accident, in which she rear-ended a large trailer while driving in Kakegawa, Japan, late on Monday. Investigators revealed that Hirosue had been heading toward Tokyo from Nara prefecture when the accident occurred. At the scene, she was reportedly restless, repeatedly sitting down and standing up.
Police conducted an examination of Hirosue’s car and personal belongings on Tuesday, but they have not yet commented on whether she has admitted to the allegations.
Hirosue, who first appeared on television in 1995 and rose to fame for her role in the Academy Award-winning film “Departures,” has faced multiple controversies in her personal life. She has been married twice—first to fashion designer Takahiro Okazawa and then to Jun Izutsu—and has been involved in several alleged affairs.
One of the most publicized incidents was her affair with Japanese Michelin-starred chef Toba Shusaku, which came to light in June 2022 while she was married to Jun. In the wake of the affair, Hirosue issued a handwritten apology to Toba’s family and expressed regret for the pain she caused. She also announced her divorce from Jun in July 2023.
The affair resulted in the cancellation of multiple advertising contracts and film projects, leading to an estimated financial loss of 200 million yen (US$1.4 million) for the actress, according to local media. Reports also indicate that Hirosue was required to make compensatory payments totaling 400 million yen to advertisers and film crews.
