The Gujarat government on Wednesday has decided to increase the development fund allotted to MLAs. MLAs in Gujarat will now get a development fund of Rs 2.5 crore every year. The government has increased the annual MLA Local Area Development Fund from the current Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 2.5 crore. At the same time, in a release issued by the government, it has also been said that half of the additional allocation should be spent on water conservation.
The release issued said, 'The Chief Minister has made a significant increase in the grant allotted to MLAs for development. Trying to further strengthen Gujarat's established identity as a role model of development. The current annual grant of MLAs for the local area development fund has been increased by one crore rupees. At the same time, now 50 lakh rupees out of the total 2.5 crore rupees to the MLAs will have to be spent on the 'Catch the Rain' campaign of the center.
The release issued by the Gujarat government said that the additional amount has been set by focusing on the 'Catch the Rain' initiative of the Center for collecting and storage of rainwater. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'Catch the Rain' campaign for water conservation and rainwater harvesting. At the same time, it has been said that for the 'Catch the Rain' campaign, MLAs will have to get work up to Rs 50 lakh with this additional grant.
From Gujarat 2018, every year 'Sujalam Suflam Jal Abhiyan' is organizing. Its main objective is to ensure water security in future and increase the ground water level through rainwater harvesting. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel wrote on his X, 'With the aim of accelerating the development of the state, the grant allotted to the legislators has been increased.
