New Delhi: Following Pakistans recent unsuccessful New Zealand tour captain Mohammad Rizwan and star batsman Babar Azam plan to meet with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi to discuss their exclusion from the T20I squad and seek greater captaincy influence. A PCB official speaking anonymously revealed Rizwans dissatisfaction with the selectors decision to omit him and Azam from the New Zealand series a move intended to give younger players opportunities under new captain Salman Agha.
Pakistan captain Rizwans associates corroborated the report.
Rizwan is due to meet the PCB chairman as soon as he gets an opportunity to seek clarity on his axing from the T20I side the sources close to the Pakistan captain told Telecom Asia Sport (www.telecomasia.net).
Rizwans appointment as white-ball captain occurred last October. However he was subsequently rested for the Zimbabwe limited-overs matches and then led the team in the T20I series against South Africa. I cant say anything about T20 its not my job just like here (in ODIs) I do not have all the things in my hands. Neither we knew nor were we consulted (about T20I axing). It was their decision and they took that decision and we accepted that as we have done before Rizwan had said after Pakistans 3-0 whitewash in New Zealand.
Reports indicate that Rizwan and head coach Aaqib Javed disagreed on the team selection for the first two games with Rizwan advocating for a five-bowler lineup.
Pakistans strategy of using part-time bowlers Salman Agha and Irfan Khan for ten overs backfired as the pair conceded a costly 118 runs between them supplementing the four regular bowlers. Rizwan will seek more power in the selection of the playing eleven for the match and there is a possibility that if not given full power then he might resign from ODI captaincy the source said.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly in contact with several international coaches to replace interim head coach Aaqib Javed. Former Pakistani players are also under consideration. Following the Pakistan Super League which concludes May 18th Pakistan will play five T20I matches against Bangladesh.
Rizwan seeks clarification regarding his T20I dismissal and the extent of his captaincy authority in white-ball cricket.
