Beijing: Speaking on the current tariff battle between the US and China, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said that China “is not afraid of provocations, and it won’t back down.”
A 1953 film of former Chinese leader Mao Zedong during the country’s conflict with the United States was posted by Mao Ning. “We are Chinese,” Mao Ning said after posting the video on X. Provocations don’t scare us. We don’t give up.”
“As to how long this war will last, we are not the ones who can decide,” Zedong said in the video that was uploaded to X. President Truman used to be in charge, and President Eisenhower—or the next US president—will be in charge. It is up to them.
“We will never give up, regardless of how long this conflict lasts. We’ll keep fighting until we win,” he said.
On Wednesday (local time), US President Donald Trump said that tariffs on China will be raised immediately to 125%. Following a retaliatory action by China, which raised its tax on US imports from 34% to 84% beginning on April 10, the US president took this action.
According to Al Jazeera, China said that it will raise its tax on US imports from 34% to 84% as of April 10. Following a massive 104% rise in US tariffs on China, the decision was made.
Following Beijing’s 34% retaliatory tariff rise in response to the US President’s declaration of reciprocal duties during Liberation Day on April 2, Trump earlier on Sunday threatened to raise tariffs on China by an extra 50%.
A spokesman for China’s Ministry of Commerce criticised the US tariffs on the nation as “groundless” and described them as a unilateral bullying tactic.
