Families in Bollywood often remain in the highlights. Whether they are the Kapoors or the Khans these affluent families often make headlines. Today we will discuss a family with a rich history. With the daughter-in-law being a big actress and the father-in-law being a renowned producer this family has faced many ups and downs. If you are wondering which family we are discussing it is Gulshan Rais family—the same man who played a crucial part in the production of movies like Deewar and Mohra. While Gulshan was one of the most acclaimed producers his son Rajiv Rai also followed in his fathers footsteps. Little did he know that a time would come when he would have to leave everything behind leave the country and settle abroad. Born on 18 July 1955 Rajiv Rai worked as a director screenwriter and film editor in his career. His first film as a director was Yudh in 1985. After this he became a hit by directing films like Tridev Vishwatma and Mohra which were produced by his father. During his time as a director Rajiv met actress Sonam. The duo were working on the movie Tridev together and slowly fell in love. In 1991 the two got married and were blessed with a son whom they named Gaurav Rai. However in 2016 Sonam and Rajiv parted ways and got divorced. In 1997 Rajiv became a prime target of underworld don Abu Salem and his gang. Salem even tried to assassinate Rajiv when he refused to pay their extortion demands. As a result Rajiv Rai and his family had to leave India for the UK. The last production under the banner of Trimurti Films Company founded by Gulshan Rai was Asambhav which was released in 2004. A year earlier rumours were rife that Rajiv would return to India and produce more movies. However nothing really happened.
