Six people were killed when a helicopter crashed into the Hudson River on Thursday afternoon around 3:17 pm. Agustín Escobar, president of Siemens, Spain, was killed in the crash along with his wife, Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three children, aged 4, 5, and 11, reported ABC News. The pilot, 36, also died in the incident. No other information is available on the identity of the pilot as of now.

The family of five were tourists from Barcelona, Spain, reported ABC News. According to his LinkedIn profile, Agustín Escobar was the Global CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility, with over 25 years of international leadership experience in the energy, infrastructure, and transportation sectors. He led teams across the US, South America, Spain, and Germany.
The helicopter was operated by New York Helicopter, a local tour company, according to its CEO Michael Roth. Roth said the aircraft was leased from a Louisiana-based owner and that he had no details about what went wrong. “I have no information whatsoever,” he said when contacted by phone in New Jersey, reported NYT. “I’m not there.”
"Our hearts go out to the family and those on board," Mayor Eric Adams expressed.
Footage of the crash showed the helicopter plunging into the water, missing both its tail rotor and a main rotor blade. Officials said the aircraft hit the water upside down.
The FAA identified the helicopter as a Bell 206. The vehicle took off from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport at 2:59 p.m. It flew north toward the George Washington Bridge before turning south along the Jersey side of the Hudson River. The aircraft went off radar at 3:25 p.m, reported ABC 7.
The National Transportation Safety Board(NTSB) has launched an investigation into the incident.
