This feature is especially designed for children under 16 years of age, so that they can use social media platforms safely and responsibly.
This new Teen Account feature of Meta is designed for active teenagers on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Its aim is to get a safe, private and parent -monitor digital space. Through this feature, control of children's online activity and content they appear will be increased.
According to META, this feature will work with security checks and alerts at several levels to make children's experience safe.
This step of Meta has come at a time when laws like Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) are being considered in the US. Their purpose is to protect children from the harmful effects of social media. “We want our platform to be safe and empowered for the youth,” – META spokesperson.
Companies like Meta, Tiktok and YouTube have been booked in recent years under allegations of social media addiction and damage to mental health of children. In the year 2023, 33 states of the US, including California and New York, made a case on META that it was not making people aware of the dangerous tendencies of its platforms.
