Warsaw, Chelsea defeated Legia Warsaw, a Polish team, 3-0 in the first leg of their quarterfinal match, advancing them one step closer to the UEFA Conference League semifinals.

Even though the visitors had the most of the possession in the first half, they failed to score. Kacper Tobiasz of Legia made crucial stops to preserve the game scoreless at halftime, denying Cole Palmer in the box and thwarting a long-range attempt by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Early in the second half, Chelsea broke the tie. According to Xinhua, the Premier League team took the lead in the 49th minute when Tyrique George scored on a rebound after Tobiasz had stopped a Reece James attempt.

In the 57th minute, Noni Madueke beat Tobiasz with a low shot to the near post, doubling the visitors’ lead eight minutes later.

After being fouled in the area, Christopher Nkunku had a chance to increase the advantage from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute, but Tobiasz stopped the Frenchman to preserve Legia’s chances.

In the 75th minute, Madueke scored his second goal of the evening after scoring off a cross from Jadon Sancho to secure the victory and give Legia a significant uphill climb.

London will host the second leg on April 17.

Jesus Rodriguez’s first European goal and a superbly executed Cedric Bakambu goal completed a commanding Betis performance elsewhere.

Bakambu finished a brilliant passing show halfway through the first half by racing onto a brilliant Pablo Fornals through ball and then shooting past Sławomir Abramowicz.

After Bakambu was denied, Rodríguez steered in a loose ball from close range to increase the advantage shortly before halftime.

On the other hand, Fiorentina defeated Celje 2-1 thanks to a goal from Luca Ranieri and a penalty kick from Rolando Mandragora.

The host team got off to a strong start, but the two-time Conference League runners-up took the lead against the flow of play as Ranieri finished calmly to cap up an incredible run by the Fiorentina captain.

Mandragora was fouled by home captain Žan Karničnik halfway through the second session, but he maintained composure to convert from the spot.

Logan Delaurier-Chaubet set up a nerve-wracking conclusion shortly after, sending David de Gea the wrong way with a cool penalty, but Celje failed to equalise.
