The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) and Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) beneficiaries will now be merged with self-help groups (SHGs) in order to empower and self-reliantly empower women in rural regions. Through self-employment, entrepreneurship, and skill development programmes, these women will be prepared to become “Lakhpati Didis” under the State Rural Livelihood Mission.

To support this initiative, a number of programmes have been launched, such as the Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETI), the Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana (MKSP), the National Rural Economic Transformation Project (NRETP), the Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP), and the Deendayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY).

The government is guaranteeing these women’s access to resources, skill development, and cheap credit via loans by connecting them with Self-Help Groups (SHGs). By promoting local goods, cottage businesses, and other self-employment opportunities, the goal is to increase their yearly income to at least Rs 1 lakh.

According to official figures, the state has already established 842,101 self-help groups, which include 95,09,884 households. Both rural housing initiatives emphasise families headed by women. These women will now also get assistance in expanding their revenue and promoting their goods, which will help them become prosperous Lakhpati Didis.
