The Bihar government has approved Rs 4,148 crore for the PM Awas Yojana, and more than 1.5 lakh houses have already been built

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), 433,508 applications have been submitted to urban local governments in Bihar. Of them, 202,379 recipients have undergone both online and physical verification. On February 20, the Central Government approved the first phase of house building for 100,124 recipients for the fiscal year 2024–2025, and work has already begun.

In Bihar, the programme has been extended until December 31, 2025. The Urban Development and Housing Department reports that construction of 156,550 dwellings has already been finished and that 264,604 units have been authorised under Phase 1 of the plan so far. The remaining homes are now being worked on.

The Central Government is contributing Rs 3,111 crore and the State Government is contributing Rs 1,037 crore of the Rs 4,148.16 crore approved financial allocation for the initiative.

In addition, from September 1, 2024, the five-year Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 was introduced. A provision of Rs 2,300.55 crore has been set for the fiscal year 2025–2026. Beneficiaries of this phase who own 30 square metres of private land are entitled to receive Rs 2 lakh in financial aid for the building of a home, which is made up of Rs 50,000 from the State Government and Rs 1.5 lakh from the Centre.
