Banks Will Close for Three Days in a Row

In anticipation of the commencement of this long weekend, banks will shut on April 11. On the second Saturday of April, which is a normal monthly holiday, banks will shut in accordance with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regulations. On Sunday, April 13, banks throughout the country will also be closed. On Monday, April 14, banks in a number of states will once again shut to observe Ambedkar Jayanti and local holidays, causing an unusual three-day banking standstill in several locations.

There are still other April holidays available. On April 15, banks in Assam, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh will be closed in observance of holidays such as Bohag Bihu, Himachal Day, and Bengali New Year. With the exception of a few states, including Tripura, Assam, Rajasthan, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar, where banks are expected to remain open, a second wave of Good Friday shutdown is planned on April 18. Karnataka’s Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya on April 30, Himachal Pradesh’s Parshuram Jayanti on April 29, and Tripura’s Garia Puja on April 21 are additional state-specific holidays.

There are several public holidays spread out throughout the month, so customers who rely on in-person banking services are encouraged to carefully plan their trips. While online banking will continue to function, branch-related operations such as cash deposits, cheque clearing, and other over-the-counter services could be delayed as a result of these closures.

2025’s Ambedkar Jayanti

April 14 is also Ambedkar Jayanti, a national holiday honouring the anniversary of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s birth, who was the primary drafter of the Indian Constitution. In 2025, the nation will commemorate its 135th birthday. The day is celebrated nationwide with tributes, public gatherings, and official activities. Statues and shrines of Dr Ambedkar are adorned with flowers as people pay tribute to one of India’s greatest social reformers and legal scholars.

Customers of banks are advised to take early steps to avoid any last-minute inconveniences and to be mindful of the many but significant national holidays in April.
