WhatsApp users can be threatened by Windows – Know what to do

Under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-in) has issued a high-seriousness alert about a newly discovered spoofing vulnerability for Windows for Windows. This safety defects puts users at risk. It also has the ability to allow unauthorized access, data theft and execution of malicious code on their systems, as stated in government advice.

The advice states that this problem arises from the wrong configuration between the file extension handling for the Mime type and attachment. This defect allows the attackers to cheat the system by hiding malicious files as valid files. When these files are opened in WhatsApp desktop, they can trigger the execution of harmful codes on the victim's computer.

Meta-owned WhatsApp is a popular messaging platform known for its end-to-end encryption. It ensures privacy in mobile and desktop versions. However, specific security defects for the desktop version may risk these privacy security, especially for Windows users who have not updated the latest version.

Here is how to stay safe:
– Update Whatsapp Desktop: Be sure to update your WhatsApp desktop in 2.2450.6 or latter version to avoid potential hazards.

– Be careful with attachment: Avoid opening attachments from unknown sources, especially those who seem suspicious or who do not have the required file extension.

– Be cautious: Take extra precautions when interacting with messages or files from unfamiliar contacts.

– Whatsapp account ban action: Whatsapp banned more than 8.4 million accounts in August last year to fight fraud and suspicious activity. The move by Meta was to reduce the misuse of the platform for scams.
