New Delhi: RCB batting coach Dinesh Karthik criticized the pitch conditions at the Chinnaswamy Stadium during IPL 2025 citing two consecutive home losses. He expressed disappointment that despite requests for batting-friendly wickets the team encountered challenging pitches that hindered their strong batting order.
“In the first two games we have asked for good pitches. But it’s turned out in this way where it’s been challenging to bat on. So we try to do the best with whatever we get Karthik said in the post-match press conference.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) scored below-average totals of 169/8 and 163/7 in their matches against Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals respectively. Key batters underperformed on pitches lacking pace and bounce. RCB management indicated they will soon discuss the playing conditions with the stadium curator.
“But we will have a chat with him (the curator). We trust him to do his job. So this isn’t a pitch that’s helping the batters too much. It’s a challenging pitch. So that has been the case so far in both the games that we have played” he added.
Concerns about the playing surfaces have been a recurring theme in press conferences throughout the cricket season. Kolkata Knight Riders coach Chandrakant Pandit was an early critic expressing his dissatisfaction with the Eden Gardens pitches and their unsuitability for his teams playing style.
Following a four-run home loss to the Lucknow Super Giants a Kolkata Knight Riders official reportedly criticized the Eden Gardens pitch preparation suggesting the curator should receive the Player of the Match award. This criticism as reported by Sangabad Pratidin stemmed from disagreements between KKR management and the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) regarding the pitch conditions.
Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming and Lucknow Super Giants bowling coach Zaheer Khan have both expressed concerns about the playing surfaces at the MA Chidambaram Stadium citing instances where the pitches appeared to favor the visiting teams.
