During a recent trip to China, I was impressed by the modern architecture and fast immigration procedures at Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX), home to the world’s largest airport terminal.
After a five-hour flight from Ho Chi Minh City in early April, my group arrived at the airport, which is about a 50-minute drive from downtown Beijing.
Banners featuring iconic tourist attractions such as the Temple of Heaven and the Palace Museum, also known as the Forbidden City, line the airport’s entrance, giving visitors a glimpse of the capital’s rich heritage.
I was particularly impressed by the automated check-in kiosks. After having my fingerprints collected, I proceeded to the immigration area, where I presented my passport and other documents. The entire process took just a few minutes.
The airport’s security staff speak English well and are always ready to assist first-time visitors or anyone encountering difficulties with the automated systems, ensuring a smooth and efficient entry.
With its distinctive starfish-shaped design, the airport also features a luggage-tracking system that helped passengers quickly locate and collect their baggage.
Many travelers, like myself, praised the airport’s striking architecture. In fact, the airport was recognized as one of the world’s most beautiful by the prestigious Prix Versailles architectural awards in 2019.
