Hubballi: In the latest development in the alleged rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in Karnataka’s Hubballi on Sunday, the accused died in a police encounter. Earlier in the day, a five-year-old girl was found dead in a bathroom of an abandoned building, sparking outrage among residents.
According to TOI, he was trying to flee when he was killed. Her mother said that the girl was first kidnapped by a man, and then taken to the building where she was raped before being killed. The incident took place in the Ashok Nagar area. Following the incident, locals gathered around the Ashok Nagar Police Station to demand justice for the minor girl.
Earlier in the day, Police Commissioner of Hubballi-Dharwad N Shashi Kumar said, "The complaint is being taken from the parents of a girl, and necessary legal action will follow.” When asked about the media reports claiming that the girl was raped before being killed, the police official said, "No information for now. Cause of death, was there any kind of assault on the girl child will all be verified.”
“CCTV footage is being checked; once the identity of the accused is established, his whereabouts and other details can be ascertained, and necessary action will be taken, the commissioner added. Meanwhile, the police appealed to the agitators to maintain peace and allow police to do their job and take necessary action.

What Happened?

As per the mother’s allegations, the minor had accompanied her to work that morning. The mother, a house help, was working in the area when her daughter went missing. Upon searching for her everywhere, the girl was found unconscious in the bathroom of a small sheeted-roofed building, located in front of the House from where she had gone missing.
The girl was rushed to the hospital immediately but declared dead when she reached there, said the police official. The deceased’s family hailed from the Koppal district. While the mother worked as a housemaid and as an assistant at a beauty parlor, her father worked as a painter.
