The Indian government has raised another major security alert for millions of Android smartphone users in the country. The new risk alert comes via the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) this month where it says the issues can allow attackers to gain sensitive information, and cause denial of service condition on the targeted system.

The vulnerability is a risky matter which targets phones running on MediaTek or Qualcomm processors, and more importantly, the Google Play system updates that are crucial for device security.

Android Security Issue: What Users Should Know

The security alert from CERT-In, dated April 11, comes with a high-severity rating, which means people cannot take these issues lightly. That’s not all, the security agency claims all OEMs and Android users can become targets for the hackers if they can exploit the issue. If you are using a phone running on an Android version before 13, 14 and 15, your phone is at a severe danger of being hacked to steal data.

So, what exactly is the security issue? “Multiple vulnerabilities exist in Android due to flaws in the Framework, System, Google Play system updates, Kernel, Arm components, Imagination Technologies, MediaTek components, Qualcomm components and Qualcomm closed-source components," the note explains the gravity of the risk posed by these issues.

If you have an Android phone running on Android 12 or 12L, the security agency advises you to upgrade Android versions to 13, 14 or 15 depending on what is available for their device.
