New Delhi: In honour of Dr BR Ambedkar’s 135th birthday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid homage to him on Monday. Shah said that Ambedkar was a lifetime supporter of justice, equality, and education in a post on X.
“Throughout his life, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar remained dedicated to the rights of the underprivileged, laying the groundwork for the social revolution on the principles of equality, justice, and education. He gave India’s magnificent democratic legacy a solid basis by crafting the Constitution on the principles of equality, freedom, and fraternity,” Amit Shah said.
He also spoke on Babasaheb’s lasting influence on the development of India’s democracy and his steadfast dedication to protecting the rights of underprivileged groups.
“Even now, Babasaheb’s ideas about creating a fair and equal society continue to motivate us. On the day of his birth, I offer my sincere condolences to Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, the great drafter of the Constitution and a symbol of dignity for millions of my fellow citizens,” he said.
Bhim Rao Ambedkar was also honoured by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.
“On the anniversary of his birth, I pay my respects to Dr BR Ambedkar, the Bharat Ratna. While I was a law student in London, I went to see Babasaheb’s home and recorded this film. Rijiju wrote on X, “This house has now been purchased and transformed into Ambedkar Memorial House.”
Across the nation, Babasaheb’s birth anniversary is observed as a public holiday, with banks, schools, and some government agencies closed.
The primary architect of the Indian Constitution and the “Father of the Indian Constitution”, Ambedkar is affectionately referred to as “Babasaheb”.
Ambedkar served as India’s first minister of justice and law after independence.
Babasaheb was born in Madhya Pradesh into a poor Dalit Mahar family. He dedicated his life to fighting for the equal rights of under-represented groups in society. He was thereafter hailed as a “Dalit Icon” for his support of their rights.
