New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi, a Wayanad MP and Congress politician, sent her warmest regards to the populace on Monday in observance of Vishu, Bohag Bihu, Mesha Sankranti, Bisu Parba, Mesadi, and Puthandu.
“Heartfelt wishes to all for a vibrant Bohag Bihu, Vishu, Mesha Sankranti, Bisu Parba, Mesadi and Puthandu!” X, Congress politician Priyanka Gandhi said on social media. “May these festivals fill every heart with joy, love, and abundant blessings,” the message continues.
Assamese people are getting ready to celebrate Rongali Bihu, also called Bohag Bihu, with a lot of excitement and delight. The largest and most significant celebration in Assam, Rongali Bihu, ushers in the Assamese New Year and the onset of spring.
Shops are decorated with traditional things such as Assamese Japis, dhools, pepa, Bihu clothing, cuisine, and gamosas.
The first day of Rongali Bihu, also called Goru Bihu, was celebrated with devotion and customs by people all throughout the state. As a sign of respect, cows and bulls are worshipped, adorned, and cleaned on this day, which is particularly devoted to animals.
Celebrated with tremendous fervour, Rongali Bihu signifies the start of the agricultural season. This multi-day celebration, called “Xaat Bihu”, usually lasts seven days. Goru Bihu kicks off the week-long festival, which showcases Assamese togetherness and rich culture via song, dancing, traditional cuisine, and family visits.
Cattle are cleaned and coated with a paste consisting of fresh turmeric, black lentils, and other ingredients on the first day of Rongali Bihu, also called Goru Bihu.
For example, “Lao kha, bengena kha, bosore bosore barhi ja, maar xoru, baper xoru, toi hobi bor bor goru” means “Eat gourd, eat brinjal, grow year by year, your mother is small, your father is small, but you will become a large, strong cow.” These are traditional songs that people sing to the animals.
