Today if a new actor wins a National Award he considers themselves the film industrys future. But today we will tell you about an actor who had neither a house money nor proper clothes yet won the National Award for his first film. You will be shocked to know he was still fighting hunger despite his stardom. Interestingly when a journalist asked for an interview the actor said without giving a second thought asked for food and in exchange he was ready to give an interview. Lets know more about this actor.
The actor we are talking about is none other than Bollywood superstar Mithun Chakraborty. For the unversed his real name is Gaurang Chakraborty. Mithun started his career in 1976 with the film Mrigayaa. He is one of those superstars who won the Best Actor award for his first film. However despite winning an award Mithun did not have a single penny and used to sleep empty stomach.
When a journalist contacted him after winning the National Award Mithun Chakraborty agreed to give him an interview in exchange for feeding him biryani. Recently during a podcast Mithuns son Mimoh Chakraborty said that when his father talked to the journalist he said You feed me biryani I will give you an interview.
A report by DNA stated Mithun Chakrabortys interview where he revealed I have seen those days when I had to sleep on an empty stomach. I used to fall asleep crying. There were days when I had to think about when I would get food next time and where I would sleep. I have even slept on the footpath for many days.
Mithun Chakraborty was called the King of B-grade films. His films were successful in metro cities but the same film proved to be blockbusters in B and C centers. Films like Gunda Jallad and Dalaal were considered big films. Interestingly Mithun Chakraborty had a huge fan base in Uttar Pradesh and other regions of India. Therefore he got the title of King of B-grade films as he dominated B and C regions a feat no other actor could ever achieve during that time.
Recently Mithuns son Mimoh talked about his fathers success and failure in a conversation with the YouTube channel Digital Commentary. He said that there was a time when Mithun was shooting 18 films simultaneously and used to work in 6 shifts. Mithun Chakrabortys popularity skyrocketed after he did Disco Dancer in 1982.
In 2024 Mithun Chakraborty was honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This award is the highest cinematic honor in India which recognises significant contributions to Indian cinema. Mithun is set to star in The Bengal Chapter. Recently the teaser was released and it is set to hit theaters on 15 August 2025.
