India is fast becoming a preferred destination for global tech manufacturing, and the latest development confirms it — Foxconn, Apple’s largest supplier, is preparing to set up its second-largest iPhone manufacturing plant in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Spanning 300 acres near the Yamuna Expressway, the plant is expected to be even larger than its upcoming facility in Bengaluru.

China Out, India In

This strategic move comes amid rising trade tensions between the U.S. and China, which have led many global manufacturers to look for alternate production hubs. Apple and Foxconn are among those actively working to diversify their supply chains, reducing dependence on China and embracing India as a key player.

With high tariffs impacting operations in China, India is becoming an attractive, cost-effective alternative for large-scale electronics manufacturing.

Where Will the New Plant Be Located?

According to a report by the Economic Times, the new facility will be located near Jewar Airport, close to HCL and Foxconn’s proposed 50-acre semiconductor assembly unit. The Uttar Pradesh government is actively engaged in talks with Foxconn to finalize the project, which could include manufacturing iPhones and possibly other high-end electronic components.

Doubling iPhone Output from India

Foxconn aims to double iPhone production in India, targeting 25 to 30 million units annually. This is a significant leap from last year’s output, signaling the company’s growing confidence in India’s infrastructure and skilled workforce.

During his previous visit to India, Foxconn Chairman Young Liu highlighted the company’s intention to expand into sectors like EVs, digital healthcare, clean energy, and information technology.

Boost for India’s Semiconductor Mission

This move aligns perfectly with the Indian government’s Semiconductor Mission, which is poised to enter its next phase. Foxconn’s new unit will be a crucial pillar in enhancing India’s manufacturing footprint on a global scale and will further solidify India’s position as a technology powerhouse.
