After a video showed a group of people in the Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh attacking a lady wearing a burqa and removing her hijab went viral online, at least six individuals were taken into custody. A Muslim lady and a Hindu guy were in the vicinity on April 12 when the event happened.

The guy yanked her scarf violently, as shown in the widely shared video, while other people were filming the event. She was being abused and assaulted by several members of the crowd. Farheen, 20, and a guy called Sachin were on their way to pick up a loan installment from a banking institution when the event occurred in the Khalapar neighbourhood.

The victim was identified as Farheen, Farhana’s daughter and a Khalapar resident. According to the India Today article, the 2-year-old was riding a motorbike with Sachin at her mother’s request while working for a finance firm called Utkarsh Small Finance Limited.

They were stopped on route by a gang of eight to ten males who reportedly mistreated and physically attacked them. An eyewitness filmed the event, which was then posted on social media. Police arrived quickly after learning of the situation, broke up the gathering, and securely escorted the couple to the police station.

Following Farheen’s complaint, a case has been filed under the pertinent Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BMCSM) provisions. The police claim that on April 12 between 4 and 4.30 pm, a Hindu man and a Muslim female from the Bhavan area who were employed by the same firm, Utkarsh Small Finance Bank in Sujdu, were attacked by a crowd after they had collected the loan payment.

Following the woman’s accusation, the police apprehended the six defendants. All of the defendants were accompanied by police when they were later seen limping at the police station.
