A recent study has revealed that the majority of Generation Z prefer a cup of tea over an alcoholic beverage when feeling stressed. The survey, which polled 2,000 adults born after 1997, found that 42% would opt for a brew compared to just 23% who would choose alcohol when under pressure.

Interestingly, the research also discovered that tea is the preferred morning drink for young people, even beating coffee. The traditional English breakfast tea was the most popular choice, followed by chai and green tea.

In addition to being a stress reliever, four out of five (81%) respondents said that enjoying a cuppa was an excellent way to socialise with friends, family, and colleagues. The study also highlighted a shift towards more wholesome activities among the younger generation, with a third (33%) choosing a tea party with friends over a boozy brunch (28%).

The research also revealed that almost one in three have attended a tea party in the past year. Over six in ten of all those surveyed expressed a desire to attend a tea party, with a quarter of those who have already attended one stating it was more enjoyable than a night out on the town.

This research coincides with the launch of Guide Dogs' , which encourages the nation to host tea parties, coffee mornings, or bake sales to raise crucial funds to support those with sight loss.

Sophie Crompton, a fundraising manager for Guide Dogs said: "Whether it's catching up over a cuppa, making plans or reminiscing on old times, tea really is the go-to drink.

"Whether young or old, the Guide Dogs' Make Every Cuppa Count campaign gives people the excuse to get together and raise money for a great cause - all while having the added benefit of getting together for a good old chin-wag."

Sophie highlights that every day 250 people begin to lose their sight in the UK, equating to one person every six minutes. She adds that now more than ever, charities are dependent on public donations.

Sophie Crompton further added: "Tea and tea parties are a fantastic way to check in on friends and family and meet new people. Our research indicates that Gen Zers really want to connect with their loved ones and colleagues more than they currently do."

Sophie added: "It's not just for Gen Zers, though. By signing up for a Make Every Cuppa Count fundraising pack from our website, anyone can host their own tea party, coffee morning or bake sale with friends, family and colleagues to raise money for a fantastic cause."

Those who have attended a tea party described it as social and fun, with the majority (76%) agreeing it was a simple but 'great' way to raise funds for charity.

Hollywood sensation Zendaya (15%), British national treasure David Attenborough (14%) and pop star Sabrina Carpenter (12%) were the top celebrities Gen Z would invite to their ideal tea party.
