He also worked as a milk seller in hotels. Then after completing college he got a government job. But NTR was obsessed with becoming an actor and hence he quit the job within 3 weeks. Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao played a womans role for the first time in acting school when he played a woman in a play. Then he resolved that he would become an actor. This is how he started his career with the Telugu film Mana Desam. From here his career took off and he kept doing films one after the other. Nandamuri worked in around 300 films. Sometimes he played the role of Ram on screen and sometimes Shri Krishna. He has played the role of Shri Krishna 17 times on screen. Talking about his last film he was seen in Srinatha Kavi Sarvabhoumudu in 1993. Formed his own party became CM three times Apart from films he also contributed to politics. He formed the Telugu Desam Party in 1982 and entered politics. His state was once considered a Congress stronghold but when he entered politics he shook the Congress. He became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh thrice between 1983 and 1994. NTR married his maternal uncles daughter Basava Tarakam at the age of 20. This was the year 1942. They had 8 children 4 daughters and 4 sons. When NTRs wife died after 43 years of marriage he married Telugu writer Lakshmi Parvati at the age of 70. He had 12 children from both the marriages. Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is NTRs son-in-law.
