Mumbai: Antilia, the residence of the Ambani family, is not only an engineering marvel but also one of the most expensive buildings in the world, not just in India. The 27-story building, built for Rs 17,400 crore, has several extraordinary features, including three private helipads, a garage large enough to accommodate 168 cars, and a snow room that simulates snowfall in humid Mumbai. The landmark building can also withstand earthquakes up to a magnitude of 8.0.
The Ambani residence was designed by the American firm Perkins & Will and built by Leighton Asia. Perkins & Will was founded in 1935.
Antilia's design was handled by Perkins & Will, a renowned interdisciplinary architecture and design firm that believes in the power of thoughtful design to elevate everyday living. The firm was founded by Lawrence Perkins and Philip Will Jr., who met during their time at Cornell University. In 1986, the firm became part of the Dar Al-Handasah group.
For the construction, Ambani entrusted Leighton Asia, a leading construction company in the Asia-Pacific region. Headquartered in Hong Kong, Leighton Asia is a key part of Australia’s CIMIC Group, known for its expertise in project development and large-scale contracting. With over 45 years of experience across countries like India, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and more, Leighton Asia has firmly established itself in the region.
Notably, the company has also executed three other major projects for Reliance Industries Limited, including the construction of the K -12 International School.
