Ninety percent of the state’s government buildings already have smart prepayment meters installed, and Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena is keeping a careful eye on the installation process.
The project has been accelerated significantly. Out of the 62,061 government facilities in the state, 55,982 have smart prepayment meters installed, according to official statistics from the electrical provider.
There are 35,956 government buildings in the North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL) territory with 33,111 meters installed. Meanwhile, the South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited has placed 22,871 smart prepaid meters in 26,105 government buildings.
The power provider has emphasized that the rollout of smart prepayment meters involves a public awareness campaign in addition to a technical advancement. The public may compare readings and notice that both meters display the same data since many buildings still have both old and new smart meters installed. Smart meter use has greatly decreased billing disputes and increased billing transparency.
