The location of Guru Gorakhnath’s meditation, Gorakhgiri Hill in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh, is expected to grow in popularity as a religious tourist attraction. Through the ‘Challenge Based Destination Development’ inside the historic circuit, the national government’s Swadesh Darshan Scheme 2.0 would enhance tourism in this region and its environs.

The project’s Rs 25 crore budget has been set aside for tourist amenities and beautification. The ancient Sun Temple on Gorakhgiri Hill is well-known for its distinctive granite rock formations. Along with the Keerat Sagar Lake, the region has a number of caves and waterfalls.

A park, seating, signs, an entry gate, a mural wall, and appealing lighting along the trail leading to Gorakhgiri Hill are among the planned enhancements. Near the Sun Temple, a Sun Interpretation Center will be constructed.

According to Jayveer Singh, Minister of Tourism and Culture, the project would boost tourism and generate jobs in the area. Separately, for the fiscal year 2024–2025, eight tourist projects worth a combined Rs 87.29 crore have been authorized for the Gorakhpur district.

The development of Gorakhtal, the birthplace of Kabir and Paramahansa Yogananda, is one of these efforts. Additional initiatives include enhancing the district’s temples and other places of worship.
