Humanitarian Aid Under Operation Brahma

Yangon: The humanitarian mission, Operation Brahma, initiated by India, is making significant strides in aiding Myanmar, which has been severely impacted by a recent earthquake. On Wednesday, the Indian Air Force's C-17 aircraft delivered another batch of pre-fabricated office and housing units to Mandalay airport. These supplies were received by Defence Attache Col. Jaswinder Gill and Sundeep Kaushal, the Consulate General of India in Myanmar, who also bid farewell to the remaining members of the Indian Army field hospital team.

Earlier in the day, the Indian Army's 60 Parachute Field Hospital returned to India after a successful 14-day mission providing international humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) in Myanmar, where they treated 2,519 patients. Their efforts were met with commendations from both the local authorities and the populace.

On Tuesday, First Secretaries Ritu Yadav, Amit Shreeansh, and A. Sowmiya welcomed the C-17 aircraft carrying the prefabricated units at Naypyidaw, alongside officials from Myanmar's Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and Ministry of Defence.

Last week, a team of Indian safety and demolition engineers conducted thorough assessments of the earthquake-affected areas in Mandalay and Naypyidaw.

Moreover, a medical team from India, which included an orthopaedic surgeon, provided treatment to 70 individuals injured in the earthquake at a hospital in Naypyidaw.

Operation Brahma was launched in response to the catastrophic 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, aiming to deliver essential support, including search and rescue operations, humanitarian aid, and medical assistance.

Demonstrating its role as a 'First Responder' in regional crises, India dispatched multiple aircraft and five naval vessels to transport 625 metric tons of humanitarian aid and disaster relief materials.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences over the disaster and communicated India's commitment to assist Myanmar directly to Min Aung Hlaing.

On April 4, during the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, Modi met with Hlaing to discuss the aftermath of the earthquake and India's ongoing humanitarian efforts under Operation Brahma.

The Senior General of Myanmar expressed gratitude for India's support, while the Prime Minister assured that India stands ready to provide additional resources and assistance as needed.
