Outlander: Blood Of My Blood will soon be arriving on MGM+ with its official start date announced, along with the release of first-look images.

The final chapter of Jamie and Claire Fraser's love story is approaching with the eighth series confirmed for later this year, a bittersweet moment for fans of the iconic romantic drama.

In May 2022, a prequel was announced, exploring the stories of how Jamie's and Claire's parents met, titled : Blood Of My Blood.

MGM+ has been gradually releasing details, and now, a release date and teaser images have been unveiled ahead of its exciting premiere.

The prequel promises to transport viewers to the world of "war-torn battles of World War One to the sweeping Highlands of 18th Century Scotland", featuring "two new love stories filled with loyalty, passion and desire".

Outlander: Blood Of My Blood release date

The countdown begins for the romantic standalone prequel, as Outlander: Blood Of My Blood is set to debut on Saturday, August 9, on MGM+.

The 10-episode series will be available to stream weekly on Saturdays on MGM+, with the grand finale potentially airing on Saturday, October 11, if there are no breaks between episodes.

The roles of Claire's parents, Julia and Henry, will be portrayed by We Hunt Together star Hermione Corfield and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again actor Jeremy Irvine.

Jamie Fraser's parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie, will be brought to life by Condor's Nest actor Jamie Roy and Belgravia: The Next Chapter actress Harriet Slater.

Joining them will be Your Honor's Tony Curran as Simon Fraser, Rebus' Seamus McLean Ross as Colum MacKenzie, Ackley Bridge's Sam Retford as Dougal MacKenzie, Rory Alexander as Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser and BBC Two's Industry actor Conor MacNeill as Ned Gowan.

Outlander: Blood Of My Blood plot

The Outlander prequel, based on both the show and the original book series by Diana Gabaldon, explores the early 20th Century in England and the 18th Century in Scotland.

Blood Of My Blood will delve into the love stories of Jamie's parents Brian and Ellen, who must navigate clan politics, while Claire's parents, Henry and Julia, maintain a long-distance relationship due to the war.

Fans of the Outlander universe will know that Claire's parents tragically died in a car crash when she was just five-years-old, adding a layer of tragedy to their story.

Matthew B Roberts, the executive producer and showrunner of the original series, has penned and produced Outlander: Blood Of My Blood, with Gabaldon reprising her role as a consulting producer.

Outlander: Blood Of My Blood premieres on Saturday, August 9, on MGM+.
