The story begins from 1895, when Vakalva Laurin and Vakalva Clement, Entrepreneurs, planned to do a good business and started making bicycles. This was the period when the industrial revolution was going on in Europe. A lot of production started in the factory and hence the needs of laborers had increased. The workers needed a bicycle to come and move the factory and that is why it was a great option to make a bicycle for that time.
Initially, the name of this company was not Skoda. When this company sold a car, it is named 'Slavia'. Today Skoda sells a luxury sedan car with the same name. The company's bicycle business was going well. So both Entrepreneurs started working on 'motorbikes' to increase their portfolio.

In 1899, 4 years after the start of the company, Skoda's first motorbike came to the market. The company's name changed from Slavia to 'Laurin and Clement Company'. The company's bikes also got success. After making about 4,000 motorbikes, both Entrepreneurs tried their hands on making the car and by 1905, the company started making cars mainly.
Now you must be wondering that Skoda has been talking for so long, but when did the company name Skoda? So its story is also interesting. Between 1914 and 1918, the world saw the first world war. In this era, the car of most companies of the world stopped making. All companies started making military vehicles instead of car. Skoda (then Lawrin and Clement) also went through this period.

Then came 1924, when a terrible fire broke out in the company's factory. This almost destroyed the company's factory. Finally, Lawrin and Clement, to improve the financial condition, merged with the Emil Skoda company Skoda Works in 1925. After this, Skoda got his new logo and new name.
