Wes Brown has thrown his support behind Andre Onana and does not expect former club Manchester United to sell the goalkeeper this summer. Onana was blamed for United's 2-2 draw with Lyon in last week's Europa League quarter-final first leg, after making two significant errors that left the tie precariously balanced ahead of Thursday's decisive second leg at Old Trafford.

Amorim dropped Onana from the squad for last weekend's trip to Newcastle, only to see United suffer a heavy defeat at St James' Park, where Altay Bayindir made some costly mistakes of his own. Brown is confident that Onana will be reinstated into the team and also believes United won't offload him this summer. Speaking to , Brown said: "I don't think the club will sell Andre Onana this summer. It just isn't a priority for the club at the moment, there are other areas of the pitch that really need to be strengthened first.

"Onana cost a lot of money and if the club want to buy another goalkeeper, then it'll cost them a lot again, so I just can't see it happening. I do, however, feel that the pressure is on him from both fans and his team-mates.

"He's had a little bit of time to prove himself now, and it's about time he begins to step up in big games. I think Ruben Amorim has to play Onana on Thursday against Lyon instead of Altay Bayindir, after what happened against Newcastle.

"He has to hope Onana has one of his better games. It's as simple as that."

Brown is confident that captain Bruno Fernandes will stay put at Old Trafford. He said: "Bruno Fernandes is definitely staying at Manchester United. He's playing a lot better than where the club is in the Premier League, that's for sure, and he's the one player who can really hold his head up high.

"He's been at the top of his game and has got the club out of a lot of trouble this season. There will definitely be some big teams looking at him in the summer, but I'm certain he will stay."
