In the present Indian Premier League (IPL), Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a record-breaking 16 runs on Tuesday at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh, preserving the lowest IPL total ever.

The pressure to take wickets was on Punjab bowlers as Kolkata needed to chase 112. Yuzvendra Chahal, a leg-spinner, helped his team win by taking four vital wickets to destroy the KKR batting lineup. Punjab managed to defend the lowest IPL total ever.

Ponting spoke with his squad in the dressing room after the game and gave Chahal a lot of praise. “I would like to commend all of the bowlers for their exceptional performance. He was reported by the Punjab Kings news release as saying, “But the little bloke sitting down here (pointing at Chahal) was tremendous.”

Throughout the week, we have also given you some challenges to return to your true self and bowl like you. Tonight, what did you do? We won the game because you bowled like you,” Ponting said.

Speaking on the outcome, Chahal gave the squad as a whole credit for the victory. “A collective effort is required. We wanted to be optimistic, and we thought it would be excellent if we took two or three wickets during the powerplay. I let up 56 runs for 4 overs in the last game, but I was very confident in my skills and talents,” Chahal said.

“I’m always thinking about how to get the hitters out. I changed up my tempo, so they will need to exert themselves if they must strike. The team’s spirits will be high after you win a game like that. It’s my first man of the match for Punjab, and I know that if I continue to trust in myself and support my abilities, I will succeed,” he said.

Punjab’s hitters were hustled out for 111 after struggling to get going after choosing to bat. However, supported by a crowded stadium in New Chandigarh, the Kings persisted in their valiant efforts to win. Punjab bowlers cleaned out the opposition for 95, recording a thrilling victory as the Kings were cheered on by the electrifying home crowd.

Ponting also gave credit to Arshdeep Singh (1/11) and Marco Jansen (3/17), two left-arm pacers who were essential to the bowling assault.

You’re used to taking the fresh ball, Arshdeep. However, it was encouraging to see the attitude you shown by refusing to do so and embracing that. Then, you took charge of the assault when the time was right and contributed to the team’s success tonight. It speaks volumes about you. We want the rest of the group to do that, don’t we? “It won’t always be precisely how we want it to be,” Ponting said.

“Marco’s leadership of the ball was fantastic in how we got started. Prior to today, Marco had really removed Sunil Narine twice in five deliveries, as I informed the bowlers’ meeting. The plan worked for us because, when I talked with the captain after the break, he requested that Marco bowl the opening over in order to get Narine out. It proves that we can stay in the game if we have a little purpose and a little never-die mentality,” he said.

Punjab is now in fourth position in the standings after winning four of their first six games. Ponting urged his players to maintain concentration since they still had a lot of the competition left.

“Now, let’s avoid exaggerating the events of this evening. The head coach concluded by saying, “We have set a standard for ourselves on belief, understanding what it will take for teams to beat us and understanding what it will take for us to win tough games.”
