New Delhi [India], April 16: Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has expressed admiration for the coaching methods of Ricky Ponting, the head coach of Punjab Kings. He emphasized Ponting's relentless drive for success and his exceptional ability to inspire players.
Rayudu is confident that Ponting's coaching style, paired with a stable team lineup, will pave the way for Punjab Kings to achieve notable success in the IPL.
“I have seen many great captains who wouldn’t take a score like 111 seriously. But trust me, this guy did. Coach Ricky Ponting does not give up easily. That’s a fantastic combination they have, provided they maintain a consistent team without frequent changes. I believe they will achieve considerable success in the IPL,” Rayudu stated, as reported by a Media Channel.
He also praised PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer for his calm and composed nature, which he believes enhances his leadership effectiveness.
“Shreyas possesses that calmness both as an individual and a captain, which is why I think he is regarded as a good captain,” he added.
In a thrilling match during the IPL 2025 season, Punjab Kings secured a stunning 16-run victory against the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), in Mullanpur. This match will be remembered for PBKS defending the lowest total in IPL history—111 runs.
While defending a target of 112, PBKS bowled out KKR for just 95 runs in 15.1 overs, thanks to an outstanding bowling performance from Yuzvendra Chahal and Marco Jansen, which turned the game around after a disappointing batting display.
With this victory, PBKS currently holds the fourth position in the standings with four wins and two losses, totaling eight points. Meanwhile, KKR sits in sixth place with three wins and four losses, accumulating six points.
