Islamabad: According to Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, the former prime minister was “enjoying holidays instead of facing a jail term” in response to the PTI‘s claims that it denied its party founder, Imran Khan, jail facilities at Adiala.
“In my opinion, the PTI founder is actually enjoying holidays instead of facing a jail term,” Tarar said during his appearance on the Geo News program “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath” on Wednesday.
He said that Imran Khan, the founder of the PTI, is the only political figure to have received this kind of leniency and was allowed to meet with individuals many times each week.
“Imran Khan is jailed in a corruption case, but he is not on holiday,” he said.
According to Geo News, Tarar questioned the PTI’s political actions, claiming that they were unclear about the topics they wanted to discuss.
He said that they respect their partner, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), its chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Pakistan’s president, Asif Ali Zardari, in answer to a query about disagreements within the governing coalition.
Regarding the claims made by PTI, Tarar said that the federal government does not have time to prepare for the former’s exit from politics.
According to Attaullah Tarar, a committee led by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar was trying to resolve the PPP’s misgivings, and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was serious about doing so.
He said that since the PTI was split into two factions—the group of Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, and the group of his sister, Aleema Khan—there was infighting inside the party.
“I really don’t know which faction of the PTI was stopping another from meeting him [Imran Khan],” he said.
Tarar made these comments after a number of PTI leaders accused one another of blocking their meeting with Khan at the Adiala prison in Rawalpindi
A dispute over the meeting with Imran Khan had previously flared up again on Tuesday as PTI chairman Gohar Ali Khan claimed that the party had only allowed “two leaders” to attend based on their list. “Five leaders met the PTI founder today,” according to Geo News.
Gohar Ali Khan chastised the prison administration for preventing Imran Khan from seeing his relatives. He said, “We condemn you for not allowing Khan’s sisters to meet him.”
