Asda makes major change in stores for parts of the UK on Friday

Asda is opening hundreds of stores on Good Friday but will make a major change to opening hours for the Bank Holiday in parts of the UK.

Good Friday is a Bank Holiday in the UK which means shops have different opening times and this Friday, April 18, supermarket giant Asda has announced it will change its opening times across hundreds of stores.

On Friday, will open the doors to more than 1,000 stores across the UK but will change the opening times for most of its stores in England and Wales to trade from 7am to 10pm.

Although some individual stores may vary, 7am-10pm will be the standard opening time for most stores in England and Wales.

This only applies to the standard large supermarket stores though, as Express stores and petrol stations will in most cases continue to be open as normal.

On Easter Sunday, will shut about 580 larger stores, with its smaller Express convenience stores and filling stations remaining open.

Government rules for England and Wales on supermarket opening times mean stores larger than 280 square meters must close on Easter Sunday, but stores can open on Good Friday and this Saturday, though most are choosing to slightly reduce opening times.

will completely close its larger stores on Easter Sunday as well as Tesco Extra stores.

But it will reduce hours on Good Friday and Easter Monday, typically between 8am and 6pm for branches in England and Wales.

will open from 8am to 10pm on Good Friday and Saturday, but will close on Easter Sunday.

will be open from 7am to 10pm on Good Friday and Saturday, but will shut larger stores on Easter Sunday, with just smaller Sainsbury's Local branches staying open.

Morrisons will be open from 7am to 10pm on Good Friday and on Saturday, but will shut on Easter Sunday.
