The road to Bilbao is officially over for die Adler: even though they had many chances to even win the game at home, Frankfurt were not able to beat Tottenham in the Deutsche Bank Park and lost 0-1.

Goalkeeper Kauã Santos was the tragic figure of the night, after being the hero in the 1st leg: his foul on James Maddison caused the game-deciding penalty for Tottenham, which Dominic Solanke converted to win the game for the Londoners.

The final score after both matches is 1-2 for Tottenham – and Frankfurt have now become the final German team to go out of an European competition in 2024/25. Here is how the game tonight played out:

1st half:

Both teams were far more careful in the start to this game as opposed to the start during the 1st leg last week. Tottenham, like last week, dominated the game through ball posession, but couldn’t create as many chances.

Frankfurt’s counter attacking football didn’t work as good as last week either: they were not able get into good scoring positions and were caught in their high pressure on multiple occasions.

Really, the story of the 1st half were key injuries: in the 17th minute, Frankfurt’s Mario Götze had to come off for Farès Chaïbi, after he got a small knock during a tackle.

Tottenham’s playmaker James Maddison also had to come off in the 45th minute after he was Fouled by Frankfurt's Goalkeeper Kauã Santos in the 41st minute; the foul resulted in Tottenham being rewared a penalty.

Striker Dominic Solanke was able to convert the penalty in minute 43 to give his team a 1-0 lead heading into the break. Half time score: Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham.

2nd half:

Frankfurt came out of the break determined to make a comeback: Substitute Farès Chaïbi came close to scoring after a great shot on target from a freekick in minute 50.

Tottenham came close to doubling their lead thanks to a header from Romero in the 61st minute. Right after that, Tuta tried his luck for Frankfurt with a long range shot, missing the goal by about 2 metres.

The 69th minute became quite controversial after a duel between Tottenham’s Romero and Frankfurt’s Ekitiké: the striker was brought down in the box and was hoping for a penalty call – which didn’t come.

This sequence however started a pressure period from Frankfurt: not only did their fans get even louder than before, the players were also able to put more pressure onto the Londoners and create more chances in the process.

Newly (permanently) signed rightback Kristensen had the best chance for Frankfurt in the 82nd minute: a little chaos in Tottenham’s box caused Kristensen to have a relatively free shot on goal – but the defender missed the goal by about a metre.

The last 15 minutes of the game were all Frankfurt: Kristensen and Chaïbi had more great chances to equalise the score, but were denied. Dino Toppmöller’s side just couldn’t find the last missing piece in order to put the score level – Eintracht Frankfurt says “goodbye” to the Europa League.
