Ryan Gosling is set to star in "Star Wars: Starfighter," a new film announced by Lucasfilm and slated for release in May 2027. Directed by Shawn Levy, the movie will explore an unexplored era five years after "The Rise of Skywalker," featuring entirely new characters and adventures. Production is scheduled to commence in the fall.

Oscar-nominated actor Ryan Gosling will lead a brand-new Star Wars film set to hit cinemas in May 2027, Lucasfilm, owned by Walt Disney, announced on Thursday.

The movie, titled Star Wars: Starfighter, will take place five years after the events of the 2019 film The Rise of Skywalker. According to Lucasfilm, the story will be “a completely new adventure” with all-new characters. It will also explore a time period that hasn’t been shown on screen before.

Shawn Levy will direct the film. He recently directed Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) and has also worked on episodes of the popular Netflix series Stranger Things. Filming is expected to begin in the autumn.

Ryan Gosling, who played Ken in the 2023 hit Barbie, has been nominated for three Oscars. His performance in Barbie was praised by both fans and critics.

Star Wars, created by George Lucas in 1977, is one of the most iconic science-fiction franchises in the world. The films have earned over $5.1 billion at box offices globally.
