April 18, Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: At the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, the Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by four wickets to record their third victory of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. MI defeated SRH for the sixth time this season after reaching the finish line in 18.1 overs while chasing a target of 163.
As a consequence, Hyderabad is now in ninth position in the points standings while Mumbai is in seventh.
Pat Cummins, the captain of SRH, said after the game that his team struggled with the bat on a challenging surface.
Cummins said, “Wasn’t the easiest of wickets,”
“160 was a little too low. Cutter grips were tight, and the wicket was tough. Many of our scoring locations were shut down by them,” he said.
With stats of 3/26, Cummins, who spearheaded the bowling assault, said the squad did their best with the ball but should have done a little better with the bat.
“I believed we had everything covered. “I think we gave it a good crack with the ball, but 160 feels a little short,” he remarked.
“We believed that wickets were necessary. Harshal (Patel), Eshan (Malinga), and I were all excellent death bowling possibilities. We handed it to the leggie (Rahul Chahar) since he just needed an over or two,” he said.
“Got to play well away from home to make the finals, unfortunately not clicked yet,” Cummins said.
Prior to the game, MI chose to field first after winning the toss. Head (28 in 29 balls, with three fours) and Abhishek Sharma (40 in 28 balls, with seven fours) then put up a 59-run partnership. Heinrich Klaasen put out considerable effort (37 in 28 balls, with three fours and two sixes), but the squad was unable to sustain a furious run-rate that matched the quality of their aggressive style of game. Will Jacks (2/14) and Jasprit Bumrah (1/21) were the two best bowlers for SRH, who scored 162/5 in their 20 overs.
The MI top order made enough contributions to support their case during the run-chase, with Ryan Rickelton (31 in 23 balls, five fours) and Rohit Sharma (26 in 16 balls, three sixes) delivering fast-paced performances that saw MI reach 69/2 before they were removed. MI was on the verge of an easy victory thanks to a 52-run partnership between Will Jacks (36 in 26 balls, with three fours and two sixes) and Suryakumar Yadav (26 in 15 balls, with two fours and two sixes), but the SRH bowlers chose to fight back. including 11 balls remaining, MI won by four wickets thanks to Mitchell Santner (0*) and Tilak Varma (21* in 17 balls, including a four).
SRH’s battling periods from captain Pat Cummins (3/26) and Eshan Malinga (2/36) were insufficient.
